I'll be the first to admit, we are not party animals. Not even close, nope. Actually I think my dad put it best when he called New Year's Eve Amateur Night to me on the phone when I inquired about his plans. I'll still never understand the appeal of going out on the one night when everyone and their brother, sister, girlfriend, cousin, boyfriend, and uncle are out partying being totally gluttonous getting wasted just so they can say something embarrassing or act out. Maybe people like regret? LOL.
So yes, we stay in. I think a nice dinner out is fine, but in previous years it's still always been less than desirable. Overcrowded, loud, and reservations required is just not my everyday style. In fact, Luna is almost 2 years old now and I've never even been away from her overnight, or for more than 6 hours at that. I haven't even had a drink in who knows how long. Being pregnant and breastfeeding into the next pregnancy certainly sealed that deal but I'm pretty sure my cumulative drink tally wouldn't have topped a count of ten even without my babes in tow. And for the record I've known people to drink during pregnancy and that's just not my idea of a good risk, and I'm not talking about a Guinness for extra iron or a glass of wine at the start of labor. I digress.
Travis was at the shop all day and I spent my last day with Luna alone, just us girls. I was really looking forward to a night in, with takeout food in hand and enjoying Travis' company. Well plans change and his day ran too late and by the time he came home all of our takeout options were closed. Kinda bummed and hungry but I tried to make the best of it and settled for some quick snacks in the kitchen and then put Luna into bed. I had taken her on a really long walk earlier in the day so the minute I climbed into bed my body felt relief. I was asleep in no time.
The next morning Luna and I yet again slept in till 10am. Tomorrow morning will be oh so painful as it's my first day back in the office after a gloriously long vacation of sleeping in. This morning I woke up rested and forgiving the universe for withholding my takeout satisfaction the night before. We spent our morning chatting over coffee and getting ready for our day. We went to our favorite diner in town for an amazing lunch and then after found ourselves back home being productive. It was like a dream come true when we were able to sneak away to the second story/attic and fully reorganize and clean it out. I've been wanting to get up there for months now and really tackle it but without Travis with me I was risking the wrath of moving something the wrong way or throwing out something that he wanted to keep. We did a great job quickly and it really filled a nesting itch for me.
After a quick rest and refuel we dropped Luna off at Travis' parents and went for a walk together in the local nature trails. It's about a mile and half easy hike into the woods that leads to a small beach on the bay. We're really lucky that we live in such a beautiful community and I was happy to see us taking advantage of it on such a warm New Years Day. It was still cold enough that we had to bundle up - but definitely not as cold as it should be by today's date.
By the time we made it back from the trails it was almost dark. After our invigorating walk we had a quick + delicious dinner at Travis' parents and took Luna back home. Her and I climbed into bed early again and have just been resting. Now here it is past 11pm and I'm dreading the morning to come!

Hope you had a great first day of this new year - best wishes for a happy, healthy year!
Also kinda the best New Years Day news ever - my dear friend had her baby! A beautiful little girl with an awesome quickie birth to boot. Melissa was only 3 weeks ahead of me in her pregnancy so I guess I should start hardcore prepping for this baby huh?
